Burke grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and spent most of his childhood in the outdoors, on the river or in the wilderness, learning to navigate and survive in the wild. He spent 14 years in the US Army where he had opportunities to travel and explore the frontier of Alaska and the deserts of the Southwest. His passion is working with men and helping them on the adventure of life, whether it be navigating addictions or marriage difficulties, to hiking the Appalachian Trail near his home. His formal education is in counseling, psychology, and pastoral counseling. He also has years of experience in leadership and team building, having served as a Staff Sergeant in the Infantry and as a Captain in Military Intelligence.
In his leisure time he enjoys running, kayaking and spending time and traveling with his wife Kym and four children Corey, Kaylie, Lucie and Nina. His favorite verse is Jeremiah 6:16, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.’” Join Burke on a Pocket weekend adventure in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Grayson Highlands, Dolly Sods, or a coastal kayaking trip along the Waccamaw river in South Carolina.
